After the wave of pandemic puppies, Walmart is trying to capitalize on the need for pet food, vet visits and grooming. The retailer is opening five more pet services centers next to its stores in Georgia and Arizona. Walmart is expanding after opening the first pet services center last year near Atlanta. It found the vet and grooming appointments lifted sales across the pet category, as pet owners also picked up pet prescriptions and other supplies. But it's an interesting move, since Walmart shuttered a similar health-care business for people. Kaitlyn Shadiow, vice president of merchandising for pets for Walmart U.S., said providing health care for pets is simpler and more profitable.
