thinks it's RAM-related. All the discontinued devices had less than 2GB of RAM. Which, if that really is the case, is the final nail in the coffin that Apple skimped on RAM for the iPhone 6 to the detriment of buyers

Interesting card. Second PCI connector to avoid 6/8 pin connectors. First AMD dual GPU card in several years. AMD has said they won’t do chiplet GPUs yet, so the on-board Infinity Fabric links may display some limitations that make the case for that reasoning. Semi-custom win?

Impressive cadence from ARM here. Really no reason to go custom if your name isn’t Apple. And the A77 projections bring into line with Apple’s A11 CPU on a perf/Watt basis, which will be two years old by the time it launches.

This is very exciting and kudos to Samsung for being public about their technology roadmap. GAAFET/MCBFET is the end of the road for transistor topologies. Only way to get better from here are feature size reductions, new materials, or entirely new switching devices.

Another important point to make here. Apple has typically lagged the industry in offering the latest in cellular data standards, but pivoting to 5G for this year’s iPhone models could kick some of the malaise that has hit the high-end smartphone market.

Lots of realities probably coming to a head here. Apple probably wasn’t going to get a near-term competitive 5G solution without this development though.

Hard to be too concerned given the level of technical excellence Apple is able to curate internally.

Nice look at the packaging progress Apple is making with the A12X

It’s hard to disagree with this conclusion. No one has demonstrated anything near a comprehensive solution like Qualcomm has

Certainly possible they don’t do 5G in 2019. The landscape looks fairly unattractive outside of Qualcomm

Apple’s Tony Blevins confirms Apple has been talking to baseband suppliers for 5G since 2016! Not sure why relevant yet to this case but I found that interesting.

Will be nothing short of tremendous if they hit that date

It says something that we’ve written Intel off for so long because of 10nm that we assumed someone else would beat them to 3D packaging in a mainstream consumer product.

Interesting news out of ARM. Apple will need to go down a similar path if they’re serious about automotive. Usage paradigms are different enough to warrant a unique architecture
