Of the 51 metropolitan areas with a 2010 Census population of 1 million or more, Nashville-Davidson--Murfreesboro--Franklin, Tennessee, had the lowest unemployment rate in March 2019, 2.6 percent.

Top ten largest over-the-year employment gains and losses by metropolitan area, March 2019
In March, 41 metropolitan areas had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment and 348 were essentially unchanged. The largest over-the-year percentage gains in employment occurred in Atlantic City-Hammonton, New Jersey, and Reno, Nevada (+5.8 percent each).

Labor productivity increased 2.4 percent from the first quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019
From the first quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019, nonfarm business sector labor productivity increased 2.4 percent, reflecting a 3.9-percent increase in output and a 1.5-percent increase in hours worked. The four-quarter increase in productivity is the largest since a 2.7-percent gain in the third quarter of 2010.

Unemployment rate 3.6 percent in April 2019, lowest since December 1969
The unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage point to 3.6 percent in April 2019. This was the lowest rate since December 1969. Over the month, the number of unemployed people decreased by 387,000 to 5.8 million.

Payroll employment up 2,620,000 over the year ending April 2019
From April 2018 to April 2019, nonfarm payroll employment increased by 2,620,000, or 1.8 percent. Over that period, industries with significant changes in employment included individual and family services (+100,000, or 4.1 percent) and sporting goods, hobby, book, and music stores (−37,700, or −6.3 percent).
