Correlating the referrer analytics data from a lot of different websites allows us to detect spam hosts because it is quite unusual that the majority of the website all have the very same referrers. Further we employ other detection techniques that help us detect spammy behaviour (we can’t tell much because spammers could use it to prevent detection)
Why does Referrer Spam Helper request access to my analytics data?
We only access your referrer statistics. This helps us identify if you are already victim of referrer spam and by comparing your referrer statistics with other users, we are able to detect spam hosts

This is required for creating new filters for your account and adding them to your configured views (profiles)
Why does Referrer Spam Helper request offline access?
Offline access is required so that we can gather your referrer statistics daily to help us detect new spammer hosts, and it allows us to add new filters when they are detected.
Why don't you only ask permission for referrer analytics / filter management?
Unfortunately this is not possible. Google does not provide that fine-grained permission control, thus we need to ask for the broader permissions. We have tried our best to limit the requested permissions as much as possible. We will never access data without your confirmation (and you can always revoke access at anytime)
