Who’s on top? Who’s bombed? You’ll discover it all in this week’s ARIA Chart Watch.
SINGLES
Still no movement at the top of the ARIA singles chart, with Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber still flying high in pole position. That said, Universal still hasn’t given the track its first certification, meaning DJ Khaled’s single ‘I’m The One’ (also featuring Justin Bieber) is already platinum certified in position two, despite spending two less weeks in the countdown.
Good news for EMI and their former 1D steed Niall Horan, whose single ‘Slow Hands’ creeps up five more positions to a new peak of No.3 this week, eclipsing the No.5 peak of his debut single ‘This Town’ last year.
His former 1D bandmate and labelmate Liam Payne also achieves a decent jump this week. He’s up four positions to a new No.5 peak with his single ‘Strip That Down’.
The Chainsmokers and Coldplay still aren’t going anywhere with ‘Something Just Like This’. The former No.2 single has been hanging around for three months now and edges one place higher to No.11.
Charlie Puth’s ‘Attention’ continues to creep ever higher (No.16 to No.13), as do Jonas Blue’s new single ‘Mama’ (No.20 to No.14) and Halsey’s ‘Now Or Never’ (No.27 to a new peak of No.16).
This could be the last week Lady Gaga’s ‘The Cure’ spends in the ARIA top 20, however. It’s down four places to No.19 this week, ahead of a ten place second week jump for the new Rita Ora single ‘Your Song’ (No.31 to No.21).
Future’s ‘Mask Off’ takes a tumble (No.13 to No.22), but Ariana Grande’s ‘One Last Time’ gains plenty of momentum in the wake of her star-studded fundraising concert for the victims of the Manchester bombing. It’s up from No.86 to No.35.
The week’s highest new entry comes into the countdown in the No.38 position. It’s the new Major Lazer track ‘Know No Better’, featuring Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo.
Just two places below, Peking Duk get in on the ARIA chart action with their new single ‘Fake Magic’ (featuring AlunaGeorge).
Even Lorde’s in top 50 action this week, premiering at No.46 with ‘Perfect Places’.
Beyond this week’s top 50 we have more new entries; Foo Fighters’ ‘Run’ the best of them (No.53), followed shortly thereafter by a new entry for French Montana’s ‘Unforgettable’ (No.56).
But the Katy Perry singles slump continues. Her latest single ‘Bon Appetit’ loses another 13 places this week and is now out of the top 50 altogether after just five weeks in it (No.45 to No.58).
We’ve got the new Fifth Harmony single ‘Down’ making its ‘down’ under debut at No.66 and Niall Horan’s ‘This Town’ re-entering the top 100 at No.71.
But again… Katy Perry falters. ‘Swish Swish’ plunging 23 places to No.73. It peaked at No.37.
Not such great news for The Veronicas. Their new track hasn’t exactly set the charts on fire at this stage, premiering at a lowly No.79. That said, they do make it into the countdown one spot higher than Sam Hunt’s ‘Body Like A Back Road’, which enters at No.80.
Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Love’ is down 21 to No.81, Martin Jensen’s ‘Solo Dance’ plunges 27 to No.82 and there are debuts in positions 88 and 90 for Julia Michael’s ‘Uh Huh’ and Logan Paul’s ‘Help Me Help You’ respectively.
Calum Scott’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ is down 26 (No.66 to No.92) and Little Mix’s ‘Touch’ loses 23 (No.75 to No.98).
ALBUMS
Could it be? Say it isn’t so? Ed Sheeran at No.1 on the ARIA albums chart again?
Yes, it’s certainly so; Ed at No.1 again for a third successive week, but under challenge from a handful of top ten debuts.
In fact, Ed’s the only non-new entry in this week’s ARIA top five.
The highest debut comes courtesy of Halsey, whose album ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom’ enters the Aussie charts at No.2.
Next best is homegrown hero Pete Murray, with a No.3 debut for his latest long player ‘Camacho’.
From there, we have a No.4 debut for the new Alt-J record ‘Relaxer’ and a No.5 debut for All Time Low’s ‘Last Young Renegade’.
And then, amazingly, there’s another new entry in the No.7 position; Roger Waters’ ‘Is This The Life We Really Want?’.
Warner Music pop artist Dua Lipa scores another new entry this week; her self-titled debut premieres in the No.16 spot, just ahead of Bernard Fanning’s ‘Brutal Dawn’ (No.17) which debuted last week at No.2.
Ariana Grande’s ‘Dangerous Woman’ improves from No.34 to No.21 in the wake of her Manchester fundraising concert, but In Hearts Wake’s ‘Ark’ sinks from No.3 on debut to No.25.
There’s a trio of big movers; ‘The Very Best of INXS’ up from No.52 to No.26, Ariana Grande’s ‘My Everything’ up from No.78 to No.27 and Guns N Roses’ best-of up from No.43 to No.29.
Husky’s ‘Punchbuzz’ makes its presence known on the ARIA countdown at No.32 on debut and Sia’s ‘This Is Acting’ is back into the upper half of the 100 (No.51 to No.35).
But other albums faltering this week include The Teskey Brothers’ ‘Half Mile Harvest’ (down 19 to No.37), Linkin Park’s ‘One More Light’ (down 20 to No.39), the ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ soundtrack (down 22 to No.43) and Bryson Tiller’s ‘True To Self’, which plunges from No.12 on debut to No.45.
‘The Joshua Tree’ from U2 is back in the top 100 at No.46, Lee Kernaghan’s ‘The 25th Anniversary Album’ leaps from No.69 to No.48 and Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Greatest Hits’ keeps coming back for more. It’s back in the top 100 at No.49.
The long-awaited ‘Wonder Woman’ movie is sitting pretty at the top of the Aussie box office, but the soundtrack isn’t quite afforded the same status. That said, it lassos its way into the No.52 position on debut.
Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole plunge 32 places with ‘The Great Country Songbook Vol.2’ (No.29 to No.61), Elvis Presley’s ‘The Wonder Of You & If I Can Dream’ plunges 36 to No.63 and James Blunt’s ‘The Afterlove’ loses another 21 to No.65.
We’ve got a No.72 debut for James Morrison’s ‘The Great American Songbook’, a 21 place drop for Blink 182’s ‘California’ (No.53 to No.74) and a 20 place easing for Bee Gees’ ‘Timeless : The All-Time Greatest Hits’.
We’ve got a new No.83 debut for the new Dan Auerbach album ‘Waiting On A Song’, but how’s the drop for Frenzal Rhomb’s ‘Hi-Vis High Tea’. It’d want to be wearing hi-vis too, ’cause no-one seems to be noticing it… it plummets 76 places, from No.9 on debut to No.85.
The 43 place drop for Audioslave’s self-titled album (No.47 to No.90) pales in comparision.
Luke Combs’ ‘This One’s For You’ premieres in the No.94 position, House vs Hurricane’s ‘Filth’ is new at No.99.
In between them, the ‘La La Land’ soundtrack takes a dive (No.58 to No.96).
Caitlyn Shadbolt’s album ‘Songs On My Sleeve’ dives more than 74 places from last week’s No.26 debut to be out of this week’s top 100 entirely.
