This is the first time Debian has decided to do a Long-Term Support release for maintaining a release for a half-decade with security fixes. Compared to normal support, however, this "Squeeze LTS" Is just going to be i386 and amd64 support and there's some packages (such as some web browsers) that won't receive the five year support treatment.
Debian will be evaluating how Squeeze-LTS works out as they decide when the time comes whether to provide security updates for 7.0 Wheezy and 8.0 Jessie for a five year period as well.
More details can be found via the Debian security mailing list.
