    The DoD asked RAND to conduct an independent assessment of sexual assault and harassment in the military. Among the initial results of the study, which invited more than 500,000 service members to participate: Approximately 20,000 of the U.S. military's 1.3 million active-duty members experienced a sexual assault in the past year.
