Last week Valve revealed that Day of Defeat: Source, the souped-up version of the multiplayer classic, would appear this month. Today, however, the company announced an official release date: September 26.
Day of Defeat: Source recasts the classic Half-Life WWII mod using Valve's Source engine. The new version features new models, enhanced maps, realistic physics, advanced sound, and support for high dynamic range (HDR) lighting: basically, all the goodies you've come to love from Source.
"Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Valve's Gabe Newell. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project."
The new Day of Defeat will be available over Steam for $19.95, or as part of the Counter-strike: Source retail package. Players who bought the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold packages, which included Day of Defeat: Source, will be able to pre-load the game and play immediately upon its release.
