Abstract: While data quality has been a subject of interest for many years, only recently has the research output begun to converge with the needs of organizations faced with these challenges. This paper addresses the fundamental issues existent within existing approaches to improving the Federal Government's data quality (DQ). It briefly discusses our collective motivation, examines three root causes preventing more rapid DQ improvement progress. An examination of "newly perceived" realities in this area leads to discussion of several considerations that will improve related efforts.

16:30 Evolutionary Progress of Semantic Web Technologies to Information Analytics - Dr. Hanmin Jung - KR, WG2

Abstract: This talk will show how to improve productivity of researchers as well as to support systematic R&D of technology intelligence service that aim to support decision-making processes for strategic planning. Recently, CUBIST Pharmaceuticals in the UK and FUSE project in US are pursing the topic of technical emergence and facilitating semantic search in an integrated dataset from metadata and full-texts of literature. About a year ago, InSciTe project in Korea implemented such a system and found several issues that need to be resolved, such as verification of reasoning results, finding relationships among entities and identity resolution in linked data. InSciTe has been implemented by combining semantic web and text mining technologies, analyzes relations among technologies, research agents and research outcomes, and provides services from the viewpoint of discovery, combination and comparison. This year, the service evolving into a service for technical opportunity discovery (TOD). Thus this presentation will focus on the trends of Semantic Web technologies from data modeling to information anayltics as well as the above mentioned issue.

11:45 Temporal Extensions to SQL - Part 1: System Versioned Tables - Mr. Krishna Kulkarni - IBM, US, WG3

Abstract: Although temporal data management has been a popular research topic for over four decades, it is only recently that SQL databases are stepping up to offer a limited but useful subset of temporal features. This presentation will cover the new features that have been introduced into the new version of ISO/IEC 9075 (SQL) standard currently under development (expected to progress to Final Draft International Standard soon) that are specifically aimed at managing temporal aspects of data contained in tables. These extensions support both system time (popularly known as "transaction time") and application time (popularly known as "valid time") dimensions of data stored in SQL databases

Abstract: NoSQL databases (either no-SQL or Not Only SQL) are currently a hot topic in some parts of computing. In fact, one website lists over a hundred different NoSQL databases. This presentation reviews the features common to the NoSQL databases and compares those features to the features and capabilities of SQL databases.
