Today's new starters may already be inside January's unfair dismissal reforms. From 1 January 2027, the qualifying period for unfair dismissal protection drops from two years to six months. Someone joining your business this month could reach that threshold the moment the new rules take effect. That makes this an operational problem, not just an HR one. Probation dates, contracts, absence records, performance documentation, manager training, payroll data and exit processes all need to be visible and acted on before the rules change. What does operational excellence look like in the age of AI? Last week at Home House Studio, we hosted a workshop exploring how AI can help operators turn the best operational decision-making into a repeatable, scalable standard. The conversation focused on a challenge many multi-site businesses face – not a lack of data, but a lack of clarity on which actions will have the biggest impact. From forecasting and workforce planning to identifying the behaviours of top-performing sites, we explored how AI can help identify opportunities earlier, highlight exceptions that require attention and reduce the administrative burden on managers.
