"The cult of FlatPay." "Against this backdrop, FlatPay stands out. The SME payments fintech topped Sifted’s ranking of the fastest growing fintechs and became Denmark’s fastest ever unicorn. Throughout the conference, the fascination with FlatPay’s rise was palpable. I moderated a panel with cofounder and CEO Sander Janca-Jensen alongside Josh Bell, general partner at Dawn Capital, a Flatpay investor. It was a packed room with many standing due to a lack of available seats, and looking out into the crowd in between questions, I could see the rapt attention the audience offered Janca-Jensen hoping to get a pearl of wisdom on the fintech’s success." Fantastic write-up from Damisola Sulaiman of the #nordicfintechweek panel with Josh and Sander last week in Copenhagen. Full piece in Sifted below 👇

What a pleasure to speak at the inaugural HumanX Europe in Amsterdam last week! My takes on stage, and I stand by them: ⚡ For AI, the roadblock today is energy, and the roadblock in the future will be energy. From training to inference to chips, every bottleneck eventually lands on the same constraint. Each new model release pushes the frontier further out, from robotics to biology, and pulls harder on the same grid. (Proud that Runware is attacking this head-on with modular inference pods that bring compute near low-cost energy) 🔐 Security is the sleeper category, especially agents talking to agents in ways humans cannot follow. (Watch Blackwall in this space) ❤️ At the application layer, harnesses and workflows are now table stakes. Customer love is the moat. Models improve every 3 to 6 months; the companies that survive help their customers defend their AI journey to their own boards. (Orbio AI from our portfolio is a great example.) 🧬 Vertically, biology is the biggest near-term frontier. The genome is still poorly understood, transformers could unlock personalised medicine, and big pharma is buying in for the first time in years. 🤖 Physical AI is real, but the data infrastructure for it barely exists. Robotics data is scarce, hard to collect and needs perpetual collection. On-device inference in this vertical will look nothing like what we know today. Thank you to Alex Hern for moderating, to Philip Chopin and Larry Li for a brilliant discussion, and to Shauna Kiely, Zach Butler, Brian Curran and the whole HumanX team for having me. See you at the next one! #HumanX #AIInfrastructure #Energy #Biology #PhysicalAI #VentureCapital

"Founding a company and scaling it into a unicorn in under four years is hard enough. Taking that unicorn to its next stage of maturity, while keeping the momentum running at hyper-scale, is even harder." Yesterday at a packed Nordic Fintech Week, Josh Bell took to the stage alongside Sander Janca-Jensen to discuss Flatpay's incredible journey so far, and how one of Europe's fastest-growing companies is approaching the next level of scale... Thank you to Damisola Sulaiman for the expert moderation!

Don't miss Josh Bell and Sander Janca-Jensen at Nordic Fintech Week on Wednesday 👇
From startup to unicorn in under four years. Now, Flatpay is setting its sights on what comes next. At Nordic Fintech Week, Sander Janca-Jensen, CEO and Co-founder of Flatpay, will sit down with Josh Bell, Co-founder of Dawn Capital, for a conversation about taking one of Europe’s fastest-growing companies into its next phase of scale. Sander will share how the Flatpay team approaches strategy, expansion and execution at hyper-scale, including why some of the most important decisions are about what to say no to and what not to build, enter or pursue. A behind-the-scenes look at the decisions that come after reaching unicorn status, and the ambition to go even further. 📅 September 23, 13:15–13:35 📍 Northern Star Stage 🎟️ Get your Nordic Fintech Week ticket here: https://lnkd.in/dyveCuJK 📲 Download the Nordic Fintech Week app here (iOS): https://lnkd.in/e8XRW2cy 📲 Download the Nordic Fintech Week app here (Android): https://lnkd.in/efgx9CAB 🗓️ View the whole Nordic Fintech Week program here: https://lnkd.in/e-V8YWzy

This week, together with Ironbridge, we hosted a room full of UK business leaders at our offices to debunk four common myths that prevent businesses from adopting AI. Thanks to our guests Malak Sadek (Centre for Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence (CHIA)) and Ben Freeman (Meta) for sharing their stories. cc Norman Fiore, Owen Brooks, Jan Bzik, Nils Howland
Our inaugural AI summit. A room full of leaders comparing notes on what AI is (and isn't) actually doing for their businesses. Rather than spending the morning telling people why they should adopt AI, today focused on reasons we hear most for not doing it - topics on: direction, value, adoption, and trust. Thank you to our guest speakers Malak Sadek, Norman Fiore, Ben Freeman and Rob May. To everyone who came. And of course Dawn Capital for hosting us. Excited to work with our partners Lovable, OpenAI and Microsoft with what is to come. #EverydayAI #YourAIDepartment cc: Nils Howland, Owen Brooks, Jan Bzik, ramsac

Was great fun to be on this panel - thank you Francis Thomas and UK Private Capital for having me. So much left to build - a privilege to be witnessing founders in AI infra create global winners from the UK 👷♂️🏗️🤖
Thanks to Gareth Llewellyn, Evgenia Plotnikova and Henry Philipson for a great discussion at the UK Private Capital Summit last week. AI has created investment opportunities throughout the stack, and the conversation was a useful reminder that infrastructure goes far beyond data centres and foundation models. We covered everything from photonic computing (!!!) and AI deployment to energy systems, inference, and even the software needed to support the next wave of AI growth - and each had a different thesis for where the returns are. We heard about some great portfolio companies who each have a role to play, including Optalysys, Literal Labs, Doubleword, Intel Granulate, Runware, Gorilla - Energy Margin Intelligence. - AI infrastructure is obviously expanding rapidly and being asked to do more. Some of the most interesting opportunities sit in the technologies that make AI cheaper, faster and less energy intensive. - The UK has a real opportunity to build AI growth across the whole country. The combination of world-class research, entrepreneurial talent and growing pools of capital gives us a strong foundation, particularly if we can align with emerging regional AI and growth initiatives. - AI sovereignty is about more than compute or training. Ownership matters too. We need to think carefully about how we retain capability and value in the UK. That needs great scale-up capital, great IPOs, great procurement. Thanks again to Gareth, Evgenia and Henry, and to everyone who joined us. It is an incredible honor to be recognized among the top innovators in our region. Blackwall has officially been named to the Sifted 100: DACH & CEE 2026 leaderboard, which highlights the fastest-growing startups and scaleups across DACH & CEE. This milestone is entirely about our team who made it happen and to the partners who are keeping pace with the ever-growing web traffic threats alongside us. It is a privilege to share this space with so many impressive builders driving the region forward. Huge congratulations to our peers who also made the list this year, like Flowpay, Cello, Swotzy, Pave Bank, and n8n among others. Thank you to Sifted for the recognition. We are proud to be part of this group, and we are just getting started!
