Thrilled to share that my team and I were awarded the Commendation Award (4th Place) in the Polytechnic Section of the Criminal Behavioural Analysis Competition 2026 organised by Ministry of Home Affairs Singapore! This was unlike any competition I’ve participated in before. Over the course of one week, we stepped into the role of behavioural analysts, working through the case with new evidences provided each day. Every day involved analysing evidence and submitting investigative reports, completing mini quizzes, that tested both our understanding and reasoning. It was an intense but incredibly rewarding experience that challenged us to think critically, question assumptions, and justify every conclusion we made. One of the most meaningful parts of this journey was working alongside teammates from different academic schools in Singapore Polytechnic, Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), Chemical & Life Sciences (CLS), and the School of Business (SB). Although we came from very different backgrounds and often approached problems from different perspectives, we learned to communicate effectively, evaluate each other’s viewpoints, and arrive at well-reasoned decisions as a team. As someone from an engineering background, I found that my engineering mindset played a bigger role than I expected. Breaking complex problems into smaller parts, analysing evidence systematically, looking for patterns, and making logical, evidence-based decisions were all skills that translated well into criminal behavioural analysis. It reminded me that the ability to think critically and solve problems extends far beyond engineering. A huge thank you to Jadon Li , Nita Jierapipatanakul, and Vatsala P. for taking on this challenge with me. I’m grateful for the discussions, debates, late-night report writing, and the teamwork that made this achievement possible. Congratulations to everyone who participated. What an exciting week of criminal profiling! 🕵♀️ I had the chance to participate in the annual Criminal Behavioural Analysis Competition (CBAC) hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs Singapore and Home Team Psychology Division (HTPD), with over 900 youths nationwide taking part. Together with my team (Philicia Geow, Yan Ling Chu, and Tan Angelina), we met daily to pore over newly released evidence, analyse suspects, and piece together psychological profiles. From decoding deception to uncovering motives, it truly felt like stepping into the world of forensic psychology, which I am deeply passionate about. Even though we did not clinch a prize, we gained invaluable insights into criminal behavioural profiling and had so much fun working side by side to crack the case! The experience sharpened my analytical thinking and gave me a taste of how psychology can be applied in real-world crime investigations. 🕵️♀️ Criminal Behavioural Analysis Competition 2026 Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to participate in the Criminal Behavioural Analysis Competition organised by the Home Team Psychology Division (HTPD) and Ministry of Home Affairs Singapore, and it was definitely one of the most engaging learning experiences I've had so far. Over the course of 6 intensive days, my team and I spent our evenings reviewing evidence, analysing witness statements, and submitting investigation reports every single day. One of the most fascinating parts of the competition was learning how criminal profiling goes beyond physical evidence. We had to analyse witness testimonies, released evidence, and even how suspects conducted themselves online through fictional social media posts and chat conversations. It was interesting to see how behavioural patterns, inconsistencies, and seemingly insignificant details could reveal so much about a person. As someone who chose to study Psychology at SUSS because of my interest in forensic psychology, this competition felt like my first real step into exploring that field beyond the classroom. It reminded me why I was drawn to psychology in the first place, as it provides an opportunity to understand human behaviour and apply critical thinking to complex situations. Although my team didn't walk away with any prizes, I gained something equally valuable. I learnt to think more analytically and critically when presented with large amounts of information, distinguish between relevant evidence and distractions, and appreciate how collaborative problem-solving can lead to better insights. Most importantly, I had an amazing time working alongside my teammates. Thank you Daylia Koh, Amber Tay, Ian Wong, and Rong En, for making the long nights of discussions, debates, and report writing both enjoyable and memorable. Just wrapped up an 8-day Criminal Behavioural Analysis Competition with my team “The Missing4”. Each day dropped new evidence into the case — forensic reports, phone records, chat logs, financial paper trails, witness statements, social media activity — and we spent hours every round piecing it together. We cross-referenced timelines against multiple witness accounts, traced financial transactions back to shell companies, analysed writing styles across chat logs to unmask anonymous accounts, and worked through forensic reports to build out suspect profiles from scratch. Some days meant re-reading the same statement five times looking for a single inconsistency. Other days meant connecting a detail from six days earlier to something that had just come in. What really hit us was how much real investigative work happens in the gaps — the unverified alibi, the detail two people remember slightly differently, the piece of evidence that could mean everything or nothing. Every lead felt convincing until we found the next one that contradicted it. It gave us a real appreciation for how difficult it actually is to build a case that holds up, and how much discipline it takes not to jump to conclusions too early. We narrowed our suspects down, built our case, and made our final call. Turned out to be the wrong killer — but getting there took real, sustained work as a team.
