  • Strong research institutions depend on strong alignment between academic leaders and the researchers they support. The Academic Leader of the Future report compares the perspectives of academic leaders and researchers across 113 countries, highlighting where priorities converge, where expectations differ and where there may be opportunities for stronger dialogue. • Research doesn’t stop when the writing begins. By the time a manuscript reaches its final draft, new evidence may already be shaping the conversation, creating uncertainty for researchers working to strengthen their arguments. That’s why we’ve launched Writing Coach, a new drafting capability in LeapSpace™. Built for the research workflow, Writing Coach helps researchers draft, refine and strengthen their work by surfacing potentially missing evidence, unanswered questions and relevant peer-reviewed research during the drafting process. ✍️ Discover Writing Coach in LeapSpace, the research-grade AI workspace: http://spkl.io/60447KXd4

  • Implemented responsibly, AI has significant potential to propel research and advance human progress. LeapSpace brings together AI-driven insights drawn from peer-reviewed research and verified data, supported by Elsevier and our content partners including BMJ Group, IOP Publishing, NEJM Group, Sage Publishing, and more. • What does hybrid work actually look like at a company that spans the globe? At Elsevier, we've built distributed teams long before the world made it fashionable. Our LeapSpace teams operate across time zones, with colleagues in Amsterdam, London, New York, Chennai, and beyond. Hybrid isn't a concession at Elsevier. It's a genuine way of working, built on trust, strong async communication, and a culture that measures output rather than attendance. That said, there are moments that matter in person. Product workshops. Team off-sites. The whiteboard sessions where something clicks. We make room for those, too. If you want flexibility without sacrificing collaboration, and the chance to work with colleagues across the world on one of the most ambitious research platforms in the industry, we'd love to talk. 🎓 The ivory tower is running out of time: Why research universities must prove their value. Research universities have long been defined by two core missions: advancing knowledge through research and educating future generations. But as society's expectations evolve, are these traditional roles enough? In the latest Not Alone: Leaders in Focus, Professor Sir Edward Byrne AC, President of KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology), draws on his experience leading research universities across Australia, the UK and Saudi Arabia to argue that universities must move beyond describing what they do and demonstrate the tangible value they create for society. From strengthening partnerships with government and industry to addressing national priorities and global challenges, he explores why societal impact must become a core responsibility alongside research and education. He also examines how institutional incentives, promotion systems and global rankings must evolve to recognise the broader contributions universities make. 📌 Key takeaways: 🔹 Research universities must demonstrate not only academic excellence, but also their impact on society 🔹 Engagement with government, industry and communities should be recognised as a core institutional responsibility 🔹 Universities have a critical role in addressing national priorities and global challenges through evidence-based solutions 🔹 Rankings and internal incentives should better reflect education, societal impact and multiple pathways to success 🔹 Academic independence remains essential, but it must be matched with ambitious strategies that respond to society's changing expectations As Sir Edward Byrne argues, research excellence remains the foundation—but the universities that thrive in the future will be those that clearly demonstrate why their work matters beyond campus. 📖 👉 Read the full article: http://spkl.io/60467yNAa #HigherEducation #ResearchUniversities #UniversityLeadership #ResearchImpact #AcademicLeadership #Innovation #HigherEd #NotAlone Sign up for the Not Alone newsletter: http://spkl.io/60477yNAx
