Navigating the Challenges of AI in Cyberspace: From Fragmented Evidence to Collective Readiness
Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) is accelerating what is possible in cyberspace, for defenders and adversaries alike. For States, a central challenge is one of capacity: keeping pace with a fast-moving threat landscape, while being able to draw on AI for their own defence and resilience. As public-interest expertise at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity remains unevenly developed across the world, the Global Mechanism on ICTs opens an opportunity to boost collective readiness to anticipate, prevent and respond to AI-driven cyber risks.
On the occasion of its first substantive plenary, the Paris Peace Forum and France convene this luncheon roundtable to navigate the next frontier of international capacity-building and advance a fair sharing of AI's benefits in cybersecurity. A first exchange will be devoted to tracking cyber risks throughout the model lifecycle, from development to end-use, so that mitigation strategies can be sharpened. The discussion will then turn to harnessing the most advanced AI capabilities for defence, accelerating vulnerability remediation and securing software development at the source.
Participants will be invited to explore the following key questions:
what States most need to understand and anticipate the adversarial misuse of AI in cyberspace, and to report on it in ways that strengthen mitigation strategies?
how public-interest expertise and capabilities, unevenly distributed today, could be pooled so that all States can both follow these developments and draw on advanced AI for their own defence?
how the Global Mechanism on ICTs, including through its two dedicated thematic groups, can contribute in practice to meeting these challenges?
Lunch will be provided to participants. Attendance is by registration and limited to one representative per State.
