I serve as President and Chief Executive Officer (Representative Director) of NEC Corporation, a leader in the integration of IT and network technologies that deliver benefits to businesses and people around the world.
Having joined NEC in 1983, my experience in the global ICT industry now spans four decades, six years of which I spent working in the U.S. market. In the past twenty years, I have played a central role in the development of partnerships and alliances with corporations across the globe as CFO (Chief Financial Officer), CGO (Chief Global Officer) and Corporate Officer responsible for business development - having completed more than forty deals of corporate M&A and investments. Among my most notable accomplishments in this regard have been the spin-offs of the semiconductor, flat panel and passive component businesses; the creation of joint ventures in the wireless, enterprise communications and PCs businesses; as well as numerous acquisitions and investments in the consulting, managed services, and digital government/digital finance and AI drug development domains.
In the more than 120 years since its establishment, NEC has contributed to society by bringing about innovation through the use of not only its advanced technologies but also its wealth of knowledge, experience, and ideas. NEC defines its “Purpose” as creating the social values of safety, security, fairness and efficiency to promote a more sustainable world where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential.
To fulfill this “Purpose,” we have presented the NEC 2030VISION, the future world we envision for 2030, and are making this vision a reality by implementing digital technologies and gaining support from various stakeholders.
Under our Mid-term Management Plan 2025 announced in May 2021, Digital Government/Digital Finance, Global 5G, and Core DX have been designated as key growth pillars. By leveraging our diverse assets and high-quality technology implementation capabilities, we plan to grow these businesses both in Japan and globally to create new environmental, social, and economic value, thereby leading to the realization of the NEC 2030VISION.
As a social value creator, NEC remains committed to connecting digital technologies and human hopes to orchestrate a brighter world.

Many people might think of a major success or breakthrough. But sometimes, your best work emerges when you are asked to step in and handle an unexpected setback. Reducing losses for your company or customers, recovering from a difficult situation without compromising quality or missing deadlines, and seeing a challenging task through to the very end, even when others may view it as futile. These efforts may not always deliver the outcome you originally hoped for, yet they often earn the trust and appreciation of colleagues and customers. When I look back on my own career, many of the experiences that remain most memorable are of this kind. Perhaps "best work" is ultimately about an unwavering commitment to results and responsibility. At our September CEO Town Hall Meeting, NEC’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Shiori Nagata and I hosted a discussion on the actions that teams and individuals should embrace to help build a strong NEC Group corporate culture. These kinds of conversations require us to think beyond our daily routines, but it is important to translate the idea of culture into concrete individual behaviors. Yet engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and expanding our thinking through dialogue, is more important than ever in a world defined by uncertainty. I have recently received numerous requests to speak and engage in discussions about the future. How will AI reshape our societies and businesses, and how should we adapt the way we work? In a new international order, how can companies contribute to the world? Amid growing uncertainty, these are questions that many of us are eager to explore. I have also received numerous invitations to participate in international events this year, and I hope to continue sharing my perspectives after listening to, learning from, and reflecting on a wide range of viewpoints. Recently, I was invited by Tomotaro Nagakawa, CEO of Deloitte Tohmatsu Group, and Eiko Nagatsu, Chief Growth Officer, to discuss topics including what professional services firms should aspire to in the age of AI, as well as AI itself, geopolitics, and digital sovereignty. 森田 隆之 さんがシェアしました皆さんは本を最後まで読み切るタイプですか？私も昔はそうでした。途中で読むのをやめることって罪の意識を覚えますよね。でも読み切る義務なんてないし、時間だって有限。今は同時並行で４～５冊を読み、面白くないなと思えば他の本と入れ替える乱読タイプです。 ８月のCEO Town Hall Meetingは普段のようなテーマを設定せず、社員とカジュアルに交流しました。その中で「失敗しない本選びの方法」についての質問があり、冒頭に記したように答えました。仕事と同じで、失敗を恐れずに次々と挑戦することが成功への近道です。 最近、社員に「AIは世界をどう変えるのか?（原題：The Scaling Era: An Oral History of AI, 2019-2025）」と「超知能AIをつくれば人類は絶滅する（原題：If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies ～Why Superhuman AI Would Kill Us All）」の２冊を紹介しました。少し古い本ですが、AIへの期待や懸念を明快に記してあり、参考になります。読んだ本の著者の考えが自分と合致しないことがあったとしても、多様な見方を知ることで思考を広げられます。 私自身は本選びの際、知人から「面白かったよ」と薦められて、ウェブで書評を調べてから読むことが多いです。今回のTown Hall Meetingでは社員が経済書、SF、コミック本までお勧めをたくさん教えてくれました。この投稿をご覧になった皆さんも、お薦めの本があればコメント欄から教えていただけると嬉しいです。 Do you feel a need to finish a book once you've started it? I used to. There's a certain sense of guilt that comes with putting a book down halfway through. But there is no obligation to finish every book we pick up, and our time is limited. These days, I usually read four or five books in parallel, swapping them in and out whenever my interests change. You could say I've become an indiscriminate reader. At our August CEO Town Hall Meeting, instead of focusing on a specific theme, we spent time having casual conversations. One question I received was, "How do make sure to choose a good book?" Basically, just as in business, I feel the best way is to keep trying new things without being afraid of failure. Recently, I recommended two books: "The Scaling Era: An Oral History of AI, 2019-2025" and "If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies: Why Superhuman AI Would Kill Us All." They both provide clear and thought-provoking perspectives on the opportunities and risks of AI. Even if an author's perspective does not align with your own, exploring diverse viewpoints helps to expand your thinking. When choosing books, I often start with recommendations from friends or colleagues and then look up reviews online before deciding. During the Town Hall Meeting, employees shared a wide range of recommendations, from economics and business books to science fiction and even comic books. 森田 隆之 さんがシェアしましたNECグループが主催する、日本女子プロゴルフ協会（JLPGA）ツアー「NEC軽井沢72ゴルフトーナメント」において、NEC所属の安田祐香プロがいくつもの新記録を打ち立てて優勝を飾りました。初日から首位を独走する圧巻のプレーで、大会記録・ツアー記録を約20年ぶりに塗り替えたことも大きな話題になりました。 安田プロ、本当におめでとうございました！ また２位以下の選手も最後まで白熱した大接戦を繰り広げ、大変見ごたえのある３日間でした。観戦された皆様も大会を楽しんでいただけたことと思います。NECもテクノロジー面から彩を添えました。私たちの価値創造モデル「BluStellar」の顧客体験シナリオを活かし、例えば顔認証で入場された方には、応援する選手からのメッセージを届けたり顔認証決済ができたりするなど、１人１人に合わせた特別な体験をお届けしました。 NECの顔認証技術は本大会のみならず多くの大規模イベントでも活用され、実践知がどんどん蓄積されています。これからもテクノロジーを通じて、快適かつエキサイティングな体験価値を届けていきたいと思います。 At the NEC Karuizawa 72 Golf Tournament, part of the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association (JLPGA) Tour hosted by NEC Corporation, Yuka Yasuda, a professional golfer supported by NEC, captured the championship trophy after setting multiple new records. Her commanding lead from the opening round was truly remarkable, and it was no surprise to see her rewrite both tournament and tour records for the first time in nearly two decades. Congratulations, Yuka Yasuda, on this outstanding achievement! The battle for second place and beyond was also fiercely competitive until the very last moment, making for three memorable days of golf. I hope everyone who joined us, whether on-site or from afar, enjoyed the event as much as we did. NEC was proud to contribute not only as the tournament host but also through technology. By leveraging the customer experience scenarios enabled by NEC BluStellar, our value creation model, we provided personalized experiences for visitors. For example, guests using face recognition for entry could receive special messages from players and enjoy seamless face recognition payments, creating a more convenient and engaging experience throughout the tournament. Our face recognition technology is now being deployed not only at sporting events such as this tournament but also at a variety of large-scale events. Through these real-world applications, we continue to accumulate valuable insights and enhance the experiences we deliver. By leveraging these unique strengths, Japan can significantly enhance its competitiveness in the AI industrial revolution. In this context, Noetra has officially launched efforts to develop a multimodal foundation model that will become the backbone of AI robotics and Physical AI. The initiative is backed by 44 leading Japanese companies spanning both AI development and deployment. I recently joined fellow leaders from the participating companies, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ryosei Akazawa, and NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang—whose company will provide the AI chips powering the initiative—for its official announcement. NEC Corporation will contribute to this public-private endeavor by leveraging our expertise and experience across the entire AI value chain, from developing foundation models from the ground up to system implementation and operation. By combining expertise, insights, and know-how, we build complementary partnerships founded on mutual trust and a shared vision. No single company should address these challenges on its own. NEC Corporation has now signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with BAE Systems, a UK-based defense, aerospace, and security company, to collaborate on implementing cyber defense solutions for the Japanese government. Drawing on our advanced expertise in consistently providing high levels of safety and security, our companies will jointly support the strengthening of the Japanese government’s cybersecurity position.
