At DTW Ignite 2026, Rakuten Symphony's Altaf Sarguroh spoke with Alexis Koalla, director of operations strategy and autonomous network transformation at Orange, about building a foundation AI-ready networks can confidently depend on, in a conversation hosted by Abe Nejad of The Network Media Group. In this week's Zero-Touch newsletter, we explore the four non-negotiables operators must put in place before scaling automation, why silos are a technology and people challenge, and how to get started building the “invisible layer” that will support the AI agents telcos are racing to deploy.

One Team. One Vision. Endless Possibilities. Last week brought the Rakuten Symphony leaders together for our quarterly Leadership summit at Rakuten Crimson House, Tokyo! Our conversations were about actions we need to take and investments we need to make now to build a strong growth trajectory over the coming years...and the vision of "Empowering industries & societies by providing open, scalable, and cost/energy efficient Autonomous Networks" is what drives us all. To me, leadership summits are about more than presentations and strategy sessions. They're about reconnecting, realigning, and recharging together. A room full of leaders, one shared vision, and plenty of ideas, laughter, and inspiration along the way. 🚀 You will feel the energy and the fun in this "Behind the scenes" reel that our awesome Comms team created :)

𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦. 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡- Rakuten Symphony 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 Leadership messages were clear and complementary: Mickey Mikitani challenged us to keep disrupting industry norms, Kentaro Hyakuno reinforced the need for predictable, disciplined and scalable growth, Sharad Sriwastawa emphasized customer experience as our true differentiator, and Udai called on us to convert our strong momentum into flawless execution. What stood out most was the strength of our 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. Open dialogue, diverse perspectives, and a willingness to challenge each other’s thinking made for meaningful discussions on some of our toughest business questions. Rakuten Symphony is expanding its engagement with Ukraine's largest mobile operator, Kyivstar, Ukraine’s largest telecommunications operator and a wholly owned subsidiary of VEON Ltd. to accelerate the deployment of cloud-native Open RAN technology. Following successful 4G Open RAN and cloud solution lab testing, the project has advanced to field trials around Kyiv. These trials will validate 4G LTE performance with commercial customers across both D-RAN and C-RAN architectures, while 5G capabilities are being evaluated in parallel. The trial is supported by a grant from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the FY2024 Supplementary Budget’s Subsidy Program for Future-Oriented Co-creation Projects with the Global South (Support for Ukraine’s Reconstruction and Strengthening Cooperation with Central and Eastern European Countries). As Ukraine continues rebuilding its digital infrastructure, this milestone demonstrates the growing momentum behind Open RAN as a foundation for more resilient, flexible, and future-ready mobile networks.
