Maybe it's a distinction without a difference - but David McWilliams does a great job at diagnosing and breaking down the challenges facing Irish founders and entrepreneurs today. Some nice one-liners in there on what makes an entrepreneur too: ➡️ "They're like the magicians in the economy" ✅ ➡️ "They're independent...They don't want a boss" ✅ ➡️ "They're sometimes unreasonable" - no comment! 🤐 But the best part for me is the innovative thinking around how to shift the culture and mindset around entrepreneurship in Ireland - and create a pathway for more people to take that chance and start something. Well worth a listen.

Stephen Tallon shared thisWhere to start? 🤷♂️ McCann FitzGerald LLP were incredibly proud to be involved with and support the Irish Tech Summit in Silicon Valley this week. ☘️ Stephen Holst, Doug McMahon and I were blown away by the Irish community in the Bay Area and incredible Irish founders building the next wave of innovative businesses. IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland do a brilliant job of promoting Ireland and supporting Irish companies. Thank you for organising a great event. It also gave us a chance to catch up with leading law firm partners and clients on the West Coast. Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet us over the week. But the biggest thank you has to go to my amazing wife - who juggled two kids, a crazy dog and numerous house viewings while I was away. No amount of Duty Free can make up for it! And of course, the obligatory ride in a Waymo to complete the West Coast experience! Exciting times ahead. MCF | Start Strong, Go Further | #IrishTech

For many of them, I offered to make specific introductions, share contacts, or provide follow-up suggestions to help move their business forward. Here is a hard truth for early-stage founders: It is not my responsibility to remember those action items. In fact, I want a follow up from the founder to ensure it is important to them. When an investor or advisor offers to open their network to you, the ball is immediately in your court. We meet with dozens of founders. As much as we want to help, context switching is constant, and things will inevitably slip through the cracks if you rely on us to manage the next steps. If you want the help, you have to drive the process. Founders need to: - Take notes during the conversation or ensure AI does this for you - Send a concise follow-up email within 24 hours - show that it matters to you - Explicitly remind us of the specific key actions or introductions that were offered. Make it as frictionless as possible for people to help you. A strong follow-up isn't just a polite gesture, it is an indicator of your operational discipline and ability to execute. #founders #startups #fundraising #venturecapital #execution

Stephen Tallon liked thisStephen Tallon liked thisWe had another brilliant Wise & Wicked event this week! ✨ This time, we were joined by Cassie Young, General Partner at Primary Ventures, one of New York's leading early-stage VC firms, founded back in 2015 as a deliberate contrarian bet against the West Coast concentration of startups and capital. Cassie spent 15 years generating revenue and scaling companies as a CRO before shifting to the other side of the table as a GP. She is an expert on GTM, and she was able to share her experience as an investor with deep understanding of the operating skills of founders 👀 As always, we follow Chatham House rules 🤫, so I can't share the details of what was said in the room, but we had a lively discussion on: 👉 How companies are adapting to the new AI-driven GTM reality and the way the traditional sales leader archetype is changing as a result. 👉 The way she is finding superb founders before they even leave their current jobs. 👉 The learnings from building a 50+ operating team at Primary to support their companies. A huge thank you to Cassie for generously giving up the time to talk to us about her experience.
