Thank you to Sourcing Journal for inviting me again to represent Li & Fung and have a conversation on the future of sourcing in the Western Hemisphere. My view is straightforward: Central America has a real opportunity to become a far more meaningful strategic sourcing region—but it will not get there by treating today’s trade rules as untouchable. Yarn-forward rules remain one of the region’s greatest constraints. While designed to protect and develop regional textile capacity, they can also restrict flexibility, limit foreign direct investment, narrow material choices, and favor a relatively small group of incumbent suppliers over the broader manufacturing ecosystem. That does not mean the region lacks a path forward. Quite the opposite. Central America can win by embracing its advantage in a more complex global environment: - Build deeper, more integrated supply-chain ecosystems across the region - Attract FDI into fabric, trim, dyeing, finishing, and advanced manufacturing capabilities - Use proximity to North America to compete on speed, replenishment, lower inventory risk, and not simply FOB cost - Turn complexity into a competitive advantage through transparency, agility, and stronger brand–factory partnerships The opportunity is not to replace Asia. It is to build a complementary, strategically important regional platform that helps brands manage risk while serving the North American consumer faster and more responsibly. The Western Hemisphere can win—but it will require bold investment, more flexible thinking, and an honest conversation about what is holding the region back. #SourcingJournalSummit #WesternHemisphere #CentralAmerica #CAFTA #YarnForward #Nearshoring #ApparelSourcing #SupplyChain #FDI #Manufacturing #TradePolicy #Resilience #li&fung

Retail has always been a business of movement. Customers move. Costs move. Trends move. Technology moves. Supply chains move. What is different today is that everything is moving at once. The advantage is no longer simply the ability to execute well. It is the ability to keep learning and adapting while the world is still changing. That was the premise of my keynote, “Move with the World: Thriving in a World That Never Stands Still,” at the 32nd National Retail Conference and Expo, organized by the Philippine Retailers Association. I spoke about retail, supply chains, leadership and AI. But underneath it all was a simple idea: in a world that keeps moving, we cannot wait until we feel completely ready before we move with it. Too often, we tell ourselves: “If I could, I would.” If I had more resources, I would. If I had better technology, I would. If I had more confidence, I would. My experience at Li & Fung has taught me that capability often follows commitment. We tend to think we must be ready before we take action. Very often, taking action is how we become ready. So, I offered a simple reversal: “If I would, I could.” If I would start, I could learn. If I would learn, I could adapt. If I would adapt, I could grow. The full keynote ran for 45 minutes. Here is a four-minute extract. The organizations that thrive will not be those that wait for certainty. They will be those willing to learn, adapt and move amid uncertainty. #MoveWithTheWorld #Leadership #AI #Retail

We recently hosted our Grow with Growth Leadership Program in India and, for the first time, included our strategic vendor community. Over three days, Li & Fung leaders and 34 vendor participants from 23 partners strengthened ties, explored and shared practical leadership tools, and discovered how AI and data can drive better collaboration and long-term value. We’re excited to keep growing together and to share the insights we learn along the way. #learning #growth #leadership #India #community

It was an absolute pleasure to represent Li & Fung speaking at the Texworld New York City conference today. A special thank you to Edward Hertzman for expertly moderating our engaging discussion on "The Quest for Newness." Over the past few years, higher costs and inflation have forced consumers to make difficult choices about how they spend their next dollar. We are operating in a "white water world" where capturing discretionary spend requires an entirely new level of innovation. Consumers demand newness, and global supply chains must be agile enough to deliver it profitably with speed and scale. To meet this demand, organizations face the ultimate challenge: they must operate within the Three Horizons Theory, but applied to today's hyper-disruptive environment. This is a concept we teach in business school, and it is more relevant today than ever: - Horizon 1 requires exploiting core businesses and existing competitive advantages. - Horizon 2 involves expanding the product newness/innovation side of the business, which is in high demand and requires a completely different, faster cadence. - Horizon 3 demands looking over the horizon to recognize emerging models and trends that will inevitably disrupt the first two phases. Navigating all three horizons at once requires a massive shift in how we execute. During our session, we explored how the apparel industry can leverage new tools to make this happen: - Executive decision-making must adapt quickly to navigate shifting global markets and recognize patterns early. - Technology is enabling the compression of supply chain lead times, unlocking innovation that is actioned by reading real-time demand. - Leveraging new sources of data and automation is essential for modern operational efficiency. - AI serves as a powerful tool to enhance human productivity across forecasting, design, risk management, capacity planning, predictive analytics, and so much more. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such an insightful conversation. How is your organization managing these three horizons to drive innovation in today's economic climate? #TexworldNYC #SupplyChain #ApparelIndustry #Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence #ThreeHorizons #ExecutiveLeadership #AmericanUniversity #FloridaAtlanticUniversity #BusinessSchool #LiandFung #Kogod

We are pleased to share Li & Fung's Tenth Modern Slavery Statement, covering the financial year January to December 2025. This report highlights our unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and proactive efforts to combat modern slavery across operations and our supply chain. Since our first statement in 2017, our responsible sourcing program has moved from a compliance-led model to a continuous-improvement approach. We collaborate with suppliers to prevent and mitigate exploitation, and with industry partners where one company acting alone will not be enough. For Li & Fung, this is both a responsibility and a source of trust. Our priorities for 2026 are focused and practical: deepen due diligence by enforcing governance and policy alignment; improve supply chain visibility and worker voice mechanisms; strengthen supplier capability, grievance handling and remediation; and embed responsible recruitment more deeply across our operations. We thank our partners, workers, and communities for their collaboration as we strive to build a future grounded in dignity, fairness, and respect for all. Global sourcing is often discussed through the lens of cost, compliance and capacity. Far less often do we talk about the leadership judgement required to steer teams, suppliers and strategy through constant change. In the latest episode of The Sourcing Exchange, Paul Lennen speaks with Deepika Rana, Chief Operating Officer at Li & Fung, about what it really takes to lead across markets, cultures and disruption. Their conversation covers two essential dimensions of modern sourcing leadership:  • Deepika’s career journey across India, Bangladesh, Sub-Saharan Africa and Hong Kong  • the resilience needed to lead through uncertainty and change  cross-cultural management and the human side of global operations  • the importance of women in leadership and visible role models  • how sourcing strategies are evolving in response to geopolitical, economic and operational disruption  • why human judgement remains critical, even as technology and AI play a larger role This is a thoughtful discussion on both the personal and strategic sides of leadership: how careers are shaped over time, and how sourcing leaders need to think about the future. If you work in retail, sourcing, supply chain or leadership, this episode offers practical perspective on what strong leadership looks like now. Last week we held our Annual Conference at Li & Fung. As we approach our 120th anniversary, it gave us an opportunity to pause, step back, and ask a simple but important question: What will it take to keep reinventing ourselves in a rapidly changing industry? Over two days, we focused on four priorities: operational excellence, business development, account management, and people. We also heard valuable outside perspectives. I had a fireside chat with Jeff Walters of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) on how AI is reshaping consumer and retail companies. But what stood out to me most was this. Momentum is building. We are seeing it in business, with new customers won, new partnerships formed, market share gained and a few landmark deals now within reach. One idea from our discussions stayed with me. That momentum reinforces something we talked about at the conference — what we call the Li & Fung Flywheel. It starts with green shoots. Green shoots build belief. Belief builds confidence. Confidence creates momentum. Momentum leads to wins. And wins create even more green shoots. When leaders reinforce belief and momentum, success compounds. After 120 years, resilience and reinvention remain part of who we are. What excites me most is not just what Li & Fung has achieved, but what comes next. #Leadership #SupplyChain #RetailInnovation
