Simplification or centralisation? The EU's #DigitalOmnibus and a case for keeping #cybersecurity reporting national.   The Digital Omnibus is meant to simplify digital rules for European businesses, but its proposal for a single EU-level entry point (#SEP) for cybersecurity incident reporting could end up causing more problems than it tries to fix.   From the perspective of #ccTLD registries, expressed in this blogpost by Polina Malaja, a centralised SEP would: 🔴 Weaken the already established trusted relationships between operators and national authorities 🔴 Create a single point of failure for Europe’s cybersecurity Mainly benefit non-EU companies rather than the European businesses it's supposed to help   🔴 National SEPs, backed by EU-supported #FOSS tools and interoperability, are a more resilient and effective path forward for cybersecurity reporting across the EU.   Read the blogpost here: https://lnkd.in/eJVPqZ2M

📢 CENTR on the #EUInc proposal As discussions pick up around the EU's new "EU Inc." company framework, CENTR issues this statement to share our perspective on how this initiative can also strengthen #cybersecurity across the EU.   Like any business, EU Inc companies will want to set up their online presence quickly, which starts with registering #domainnames. Having access to the database of EU Inc companies would facilitate keeping domain registration data accurate, in line with the EU #cybersecurity legislation that requires registries and registrars to identify who they are dealing with.   Our key points below:   🔴 The EU Inc proposal should enable open, free and automated access to the public databases of EU Inc companies, including via the Business Register Interconnection System and the planned "central digital register" 🔴 The information made public should also include a telephone number, an email address and a VAT number, in addition to what is already listed in the proposal   Making company information easy to access would ease the compliance burden on European domain industry while supporting a safer online space for all.   🔗 Read the full CENTR statement here: https://lnkd.in/e5zeJuFX

🛡️ #CSA2 and #ccTLDs ➡️ The European Commission's #CybersecurityAct2 introduces a new trusted #ICT supply chain framework covering all essential entities under NIS 2, including the ccTLD registries that underpin the European internet. CENTR members welcome the ambition behind the proposal, but express some concerns about how it would work in practice. Our key points: 🔴 Duplicating #cybersecurity obligations already imposed on ccTLDs under NIS 2 should be avoided. 🔴 Supplier bans must be based on tangible, evidence-based assessments grounded in actual security risks. 🔴 Essential entities must be consulted before any supplier is excluded from their supply chain, and granted the right to object and participate in derogation procedures. 🔴 Adequate phase-out periods and financial compensation must apply to all affected entities 🔴 The ICT supply chain definition should be revised to limit the risk of pulling foundational internet protocols like #DNS into scope.
