Heather Potter shared thisWhat happens in a heat crisis when our buildings become unliveable? See the expert insights of GBPN CEO Peter Graham, Peter Bragge and GBPN's Kate McFarlane in this fascinating series. Monash UniversityHeather Potter shared thisThis week, 360info continues our ongoing series on extreme future heat and how to live with it. Check out our new Special Report: Hot house 🔥 https://bit.ly/3LtTcsQ It contains the following expert perspectives plus exclusive analysis of a survey of over 15 000 Australian renters: 'Renters in older homes feeling the heat' James Goldie (360info) A deadly combination of rising summer temperatures and inefficient homes is making life tougher for renters in Australia, data shows. 'Hot cities and the boomerang effect' Arianna Brambilla and Özgür Göçer (University of Sydney) Cities and their inhabitants are a main driver of climate change and, ironically, potentially the main victims. Here's how that could be fixed. 'The urban jungle needs more trees' Tamil Salvi Mari, (Taylor's University, Malaysia) As cities grow and heat up, it's time to get rid of your air-conditioner and have more plants in your homes. 'Lousy buildings and heat pandemic a lethal combination' Peter Graham, Peter Bragge and Kate McFarlane, (Monash University) Properly designed and built homes deliver so many 'win-wins' that could end our 'heat pandemic' it's a mystery there's not more of them. 'How people can climate-proof their homes' Nicola Willand (RMIT University) From the south to the tropics, climate resilient housing may protect Australians from the risks of climate change. 'How to cut a home's energy usage to zero' Gill Armstrong (Monash University) Energy efficiency for homes is about getting design right and making it airtight. The challenge is making these changes affordable. 'Why we can't rely on air conditioning to keep us cool' Niamh Murtagh, UCL It's the first thing to be turned on when the weather warms but air-conditioners are not the only answer to cooling our homes. 'The climate retrofit potential of public housing' Krzysztof Barnaś (Cracow University of Technology) Eastern Europe’s ubiquitous prefab housing blocks have potential for mass climate change adaptation.

Heather Potter reacted on thisHeather Potter reacted on thisAfter more than 30 years in the fast-paced world of politics, media, and corporate PR, I decided it was time to build something of my own. It’s an agency built around a belief that real behaviour change means disrupting the story and misinformation people already believe. It means understanding what people think, why they think it, and what might actually move them to do something differently. I’ve pulled together a team I genuinely love working with: like-minded PR and media people, digital and social experts and creative explorers, all pointed towards the same goal: helping organisations do good and be seen doing it well. We’re working together on projects for government, NFPs, and corporates that want to make change, do good, and make noise about it. In the short time our team has been working together, we’ve helped our clients with tailored stakeholder relations, strategic communications, media pitching, social and digital campaigns, mis and disinformation disruption, and change management. Our difference is senior staff, attention to detail and a customised approach to every client’s needs. There’s a name for what we’re building. There’s a brand. And there’s a bigger idea behind it, but I’m not quite ready to reveal all of that yet. But more is to come. In the meantime, if you need media and communications support, comment below or send me a message. Especially if you want to talk about what’s not working in your communications right now. I’d love to hear from you. #PublicRelations #Comms #SocialImpact #NewBusiness #BeTheChange

Check it out if you're a moderator or a panelist this year! (or bookmark it for future years!) One of the biggest takeaways for me is that audiences don't want to watch something that feels scripted; they want to feel like a genuine conversation is unfolding before them. When prepping last year, I honestly found this freeing as it encouraged me to get the panelists talking to each other! Simple, but brilliant. Heather Potter reacted on thisHeather Potter reacted on thisThings people say to Comms people that should be illegal. 1. "Can you just quickly look at this document?" The truth is that there is a lot of work that goes into the final draft you see, editing, fact-checking, proofreading, and more. Good communication takes time. "Quickly" and "quality" don't always go together. 2. "I need a design ASAP." Hellooooo, we don't use ChatGPT prompts to design here. Good design is thinking, iteration, and creativity. If you want it to look good, give it time. 3. "Can we just do a video for this?" Dear program people, not every message needs to become a video. Sometimes, a carousel works better. 4. "The event is tomorrow. Can you promote it today?" Communication is not magic; it is intentional planning. Communications amplifies a good plan; it doesn't create time. 5. "We want this post to go viral." If it were that easy, trust me, we would do it. At the end of the day, it would make our work and lives much easier. But it isn't that simple. Sometimes, the algorithm just won't agree with comms people. As a comms person, share some of the "illegal" things you have heard doing your work.

Heather Potter reacted on thisHeather Potter reacted on thisIDFC foundation is happy to share a blog written by Mr. Hitesh Vaidya and Ms. Shweta Agarwal ... WHAT CITIES CHOOSE NOT TO SEE... Every city has places it prefers not to see. Beneath flyovers, around markets, near transit stations, and along busy streets, we often encounter activities that are labelled "informal." The usual policy response is to regulate them, relocate them, or make them disappear. But what if informality is not merely a governance challenge? What if it is a planning signal? A signal that housing is unaffordable. A signal that public spaces are not designed for livelihoods. A signal that economic opportunity exists, but planning has not yet caught up. Perhaps the question is not why informality persists. Perhaps the question is what it tells us about how our cities function. #MinistryMinistryMinistry of Housing and Urban Affairs #DAYDAYDAY-NULM #UNUNUN-Habitat India #HUDCOHUDCOHUDCO LTD #KantaKantaKanta Singh #EbyEbyEby Thomas #HiteshHiteshHitesh Vaidya #DrDrDr. Shweta Agarwal

Reputation. Trust. Credibility. If the way you’re communicating is not getting cut-through, your organisation is losing trust with its stakeholders, or board members are starting to ask questions about your communications or marketing outputs, it’s time we had a chat. And shout out to NZ Businesswomen. I’m very intentional about networking these days and am always inspired and uplifted when I walk away from my NZBW meetings.
